People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of early attempts at lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air flight pre-World War I; describe: significant achievements in powered flight pre-World War I in New Zealand and overseas; significant aviation developments during World War I and up to World War II; aviation developments brought about by World War II; the development of the aircraft into a major transport mode post-World War II; the development of military and civil jet aircraft; and current developments in the civil aviation industry.

A Student Assessment (SA) is an assessment for an individual unit standard. The student completes the tasks outlined in the SA. Once an SA has been completed, it must be assessed by a registered assessor.
